Agricultural Department comprises with the following sections including Cooperative, Irrigation, Agro-mechanization, Nutrition, Land use planning Pests control , Monitoring and Evaluation and Statistics. Therefore the Department implement its activities in 55 villages, 16 wards, and 3 divisions. In addition to that the Department has 24 extension staffs of which 13 are working in ward level and the rest are working head-quarter.
2.0 DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES.
Reviewing/developing and interpret district agricultural vision, policy and strategy, in line with national policies and guidelines;
Facilitating research-extension liaison; and fashion and introduce a pro-active and consistent working relationship that involves farmers, farmer groups, District Core Team staff, ward/village staff-and Council officials;
Ensuring, through developing a categorized directory, dissemination of useful research findings to prospective groups/clients in the district
Taking prime responsibility for administering the fast track and coupon contracting system, ensuring that modalities are followed and timely decisions made, while also engaging in the tendering and awarding of the other forms of contracts;
Fostering links and collaboration with institutions and agencies which deal with cross sectoral and cross cutting issues in the district e.g. natural resources, gender, environment, Regional Facilitation Agencies (RFAs) on HIV/AIDS etc in order to ensure that these issues are incorporated/mainstreamed in work plans for sustained agricultural development;
Compiling quarterly and annual progress reports, development plan and budgets for district agricultural activities and accordingly submit these to the Council and respective regional, zonal, and national level.
Collaborating with all government departments and the local government officials in recommending, developing and promoting the implementation of agricultural by-laws.
Strengthening present cooperative societies and establishing new cooperative societies in the District.
Provision of quality Agricultural education to famers using different modern technologies.
Supervising Agricultural Irrigation system and improving traditional Irrigation infrastructure in the District.
Strengthening system of data collection, recording, analysis and dissemination of statistical data from the village, ward, to Regional and responsible ministry.
